Overview
For over a century the University Hospital has been one of the most preeminent
institutions in medical education, medical research and patient care. In
1937, a new hospital, which was at that time, the largest in Asia was built
here at the present location of Inohana Hill. Throughout the period before
and after the Second World War, the hospital enhanced its reputation as
one of the most distinguished in Japan. However, as the building became
dated and unable to keep up with the rapid development of modern medicine,
a new building was constructed in 1977.
The present hospital was designed based on the novel concept to provide
an ideal environment where medical education and research can be undertaken
in even higher levels. The hospital offers: 22 medical services, 14 central
diagnostic and services, a pharmaceutical service, a nursing division,
administrative services, medical welfare services, division of infection
control and management, the Chiba center of clinical research, and a medical
photo center. The building complex consists of: general wards, outpatient
clinics, a diagnostic and intensive care section, a center for pediatric
and maternal service, as well as an administrative service section. And
the system above mentioned works well to achieve our purposes. The University
Hospital strives to disseminate its innovative patient therapies and scientific
discoveries to the world and to the community as well. We are committed
to train new generation of physicians, scientists and co-medical staff
for the satellite hospitals. In addition, the hospital provides the opportunities
for medical practitioners and physicians working in the satellite hospitals
to learn more about a recent progress in medical science as well as patient
care in order to promote the development of public health in the community,
and across Japan, as a comprehensive medical center.
