Admissions

Screening Method

(FY2014)

*Japanese language proficiency is essential for undergraduate admission.

A. Screening Method

Screening is based on a holistic assessment of scores from 2014 National Center Test for University Admissions, results from the Individual Scholastic Achievement tests and application documents. (2013 National Center Test scores are excluded from the assessment.)

Successful applicants will be determined based on the total score. If multiple applicants marked the same score, the applicants with higher scores on the Individual Scholastic Achievement Tests will be given preference for the Faculty of Letters, School of Medicine, the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Science, and the Faulty of Engineering. Some faculties have specific criteria for admissions. (See (C) Selection Criteria)

Note

  • Applicants who have not taken the test for subjects designated by the Faculty, Department, Division, or Field of Study for the National Center Test for University Admissions will not be able to take the Individual Scholastic Achievement Tests.
The listening test for the National Center Test for University Admissions is one area of English. Applicants selecting English as their foreign language test should take both written and listening tests.

B. Two-Stage Screening

For Faculties and Departments that set the preliminary application ratio for the first screening for which the number of applicants exceeds the application ratio, a two-stage screening method may be employed. In two-stage screening, first screening is conducted with the results (raw score) of the relevant subjects in the National Center Test for University Admissions specified by each faculty and department, and only applicants exceeding the criteria score will be allowed to take the Individual Scholastic Achievement Tests.

C. Selection Criteria

  1. Faculty of Education
As a rule, applicants with a total score of below 50% or those marked 0 point in one subject of the Individual Scholastic Achievement Tests will not be accepted.
  2. School of Medicine, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Horticulture (excluding Department of Environmental Science and Landscape Architecture)
Applicants who score below average for the relevant faculties and school may not be accepted.
