Getting Settled - Checklist -

Following is a checklist of things you should do for preparation of life as a Chiba University student.

Plan education and living expense budget
Know your expenses at Chiba University and plan ahead.
Contact your academic advisor/professor
Let your professor know about yourself and keep in touch.
Prepare all necessary immigration documents

Make sure you visa status allows you to study in Japan.
Fill out the Resident Card application form prior to your arrival if you are to enter Japan after July 9, 2012.

Prepare ID photos
You will need 4.5 cm x 3.5 cm ID photos for various documents right after you arrive in Japan.
Find accommodations
Chiba University can be your guarantor when renting a place to live.
Go to your local ward office
Apply for National Health Insurance
Complete Foreign Resident Registration if you enter Japan without Residence card (zairyu card)
These are MUSTs. Put them on the very top of your to-do list after your arrival.
Open a bank account
Foreign Resident Registration and National Health Insurance are required to open a bank account.
Attend the orientation for international students.
Check our website for the orientation(guidance) schedule.
Understand your responsibilities as a Chiba University student
Stay informed to prevent any trouble or disadvantages.
Meet with your academic advisor/professor
Visit your professor in person ASAP after getting settled.
Register for classes
Be aware of deadlines for registration and withdrawal of classes.
Note the expiration of your immigration documents
Plan ahead and promptly renew your immigration documents. Immigration procedures do take time.
