Garbage & Recycling

Garbage disposal is a common concern in many communities. In Japan, trash is generally sorted into combustibles (things that can be burned), incombustibles, hazardous items, as well as newspapers & magazines, glass bottles, plastic bottles, and steel cans for recycling purposes. Follow the guidelines of the city and local community for separating trash.
While some large apartment buildings have dumpsters, most apartments and communities have their own garbage drop-off sites. You are required to take out your garbage only on garbage pick-up days.
Confirm with your landlord or local ward/city office about the rules of garbage disposal.
