Center for General Education
The Center for General Education (CGE) plays a central and directive role in organizing and developing undergraduate level education at Chiba University. The undergraduate education at Chiba University is based on the two main categories of academic subjects: liberal arts and language teaching on the one hand and specialized subjects on the other hand. CGE is in charge of liberal arts and language teaching mainly for freshmen and sophomores. It is also responsible for providing classes on some essential subjects such as mathematics and physics for students majoring in science and technology. In addition, CGE organizes special classes aimed at bridging the gap between high school education and college education. The CGE designs a curriculum for undergraduates, taking into consideration what they are to study in their third and fourth academic years. All faculty members are required to cooperate with the CGE in order to develop undergraduate education in Chiba University.
