Notifications and requests on all overseas travels (study abroad, overseas conferences, research exchanges, and personal trips) for Term 1-3, 2021

2021.03.18

To all students

In light of the unprecedented scope of the COVID-19, Chiba University canceled all study abroad programs and requested all students to refrain from traveling overseas during the FY2020 (April 2020 to March 2021). We thank you again for your understanding and cooperation up until today.

Though the vaccines are being developed at unprecedented speed, it is expected to take time before the vaccines become available and affordable throughout the world. It does not seem that the younger generation would be able to have the vaccination anytime soon in Japan either. Considering the situation, to prioritize students' lives and safety, Chiba University requests all students to understand and observe the following during Term 1 - Term 3, 2021.

1. Study abroad programs
Chiba University cancels all study abroad programs in Term1 - Term 3, 2021 regardless of countries and areas. Study abroad individually planned by students should also be called off.
However, please note that we might approve some study abroad programs when deemed safe. If such a case arises, we will deliver you the information promptly.
Also, if your supervising teacher acknowledges that the study abroad you individually plan is feasible, please consult with the International Student Division.

Support on virtual study abroad programs/online conference will be offered for those who are admitted in 2020 and for certain students admitted in 2021, who are yet to satisfy the study abroad requirement. Please refer to the information to be posted on the student portal in early April for details.

2. Overseas travels for research exchanges and conferences
Please refrain from traveling overseas for research or conferences.

3. Overseas travels for personal reasons
Please refrain from traveling overseas for personal reasons.
