| 概要 Brief Description |
「移民」というと何を想像するだろうか。また、「コミュニティ」とは一体何であろうか。本授業では、国際的な視野から移民とエスニックコミュニティに関する知識を深めて行く。特に、米国における日系人コミュニティやその他のアジア系移民コミュニティの歴史的変遷や社会的構造を考察しながら、日本における中華街や日系ブラジル人コミュニティなどと比較する。授業では、講義、ディスカッション、フィールドリサーチ、グループプロジェクトなどを通し、学生自らの経験や身の回りのケースを照らし合わせ、多様化する日本社会また国際社会における「移民」や「エスニックコミュニティ」ついて考察していく。 What do you imagine when you hear a word "immigrants"? How about "community"? In this class, students will gain an overview of the demographic, social, cultural, structural, and historical aspects of immigrants and ethnic communities in an international context. In particular, comparative immigrant features observed in Japan and the United States will be examined. Through lectures, discussions, fieldwork and group projects, students are expected to reflect on their daily environment and practices in relation to immigrants and ethnic communities in this increasingly diverse society. |

| 目的・目標 Objectives and Goals 15 Core Competencies for General Education | 「ジャパニーズ・スタディーズ」は「日本」という事例を通して、「世界」を学ぶ、また「世界」を通して「日本」を学ぶという目的を持った科目である。日本についての基礎知識を学ぶだけでなく、自らの体験、自らの文化と照らし合わせて日本を見つめ直すことによって、様々な事象についての新しい視点、より深い気づきを得られることを目指している。 The aim of courses categorized under the rubric "Japanese Studies" is to teach about the world, using Japan as a case-study, and vice versa. In Japanese Studies courses we do not just provide students with foundational knowledge about Japanese culture and society, but we also offer an environment that allows students to reconsider their image of Japan by reflecting on their own experiences and cultures, and to acquire new perspectives and a deeper awareness of a variety of global phenomena. また、本授業に特化した目標としては、移民とエスニックコミュニティをテーマに、国際的な視野から学生が自己や他者を再考する新たな視点を得ること、恊働で問題解決に取り組むこと、また、テーマに関連した情報収集、分析、発信を英語で行うこと、とする。 • Student will learn a basic understanding of the form and function of immigrant families and ethnic communities • Student will learn how to approach a task from different angles and find a way to solve it in a collaborative manner • Students will gain a sociocultural, critical and reflexive perspective to understand issues of language learning in a global context • Student will learn the ability to gather, process and disseminate information related to the course topics. |

ディスカッション、グループワーク、プレゼンテーションなどアクティブラーニングの手法を用いながら、参加者同士が積極的にコミュニケーションを行う共同(協働)学習を展開する。 ＊授業の進行具合によってトピックの変更の可能性有り This class uses a collaborative, student-centered, active learning method. | 評価方法・基準 Evaluation Procedures and Criteria |
全ての授業に参加すること。学期中の宿題、最終プレゼンテーションの内容と小論文、学期中におけるグループおよびクラスに対する貢献度などを総合して評価する。 Participation in all activities relevant to the course is a prerequisite for assessment. Assignments, final presentation and report/essay will be assessed based on the participant’s individual and collaborative effort and achievement. |
