概要 Brief Description |
The focus of this class will be to actively develop students writing skills, through individual/pair/group tasks; pair/ group project development, and general collaborative working in the creation of written articles on a variety of current topics. The focus will be 'real life' media types and styles of writing, for example: global current affairs news report writing / commentary; culture and arts reviews/book review/film review; international sports report. |
目的・目標 Objectives and Goals
15 Core Competencies for General Education | The goals of the course relate to the development of writing at the level of word, sentence, paragraph structure and text. Additional goals will be: Expressing opinions; narrative construction (telling a story); the effective use of vocabulary items; a suitable range of grammar; and developing a writing style. This course although mainly having a writing focus, will also have these aims: discussion/ collaborative working; speaking and listening; critical thinking. The creation of a group magazine emphasizes this. |

授業計画・授業内容 Course Plans and Contents |
Students will read examples of different types writing from a variety of media sources. They will work individually and in pairs, with group and class feedback. Students will discuss and share the development and planning of their magazine articles. As mentioned above the focus will be authentic (real life) media genre (types) and styles of writing. For example: global current affairs travel report/news report writing; culture and arts review/book review/film review; and international sports report. Students will work through the stages of researching the topic for their article, planning, draft, receiving peer and teacher feedback, re draft and complete. Inclusion of image will also be incorporated into the article creation. Study skills and collaborative working skills will be an important part of the course, as is the overall outcome of increasing students’ confidence in the researching and writing about ideas relevant to contemporary global life.
Outside of the class students will be expected to research from a variety of media based (on-line) sources the relevant topic areas of the course and the development of the individual creation of their written article. In addition, students will create initial drafts of this, for presentation and peer/teacher feedback in class. |
