Design of plant factories for community vegetable gardens in a 3/11 disaster area, Natori.

Sea coast plants can adapt severe environment such as drought, strong wind and sunlight. Many sea coast plant such as Chrysanthemum pacificum and Rosa luciae have unique leaf and flower shape and they are very attractive. However, sea coast plants are not widely recognized and they are decreasing because of development. In this project, we recreated beautiful landscape of Jogasaki sea coast using various sea coast plants and volcanic stones. Three kinds of substrate, roof tiles, pumice and commercial green roof substrate are used to compare the plant performance. Overall, sea coast plants grow well on green roofs. Plants in commercial green roof substrate were bigger than the other plants in the other substrate.
